Data Storage converter
Digital storage is measured in bits and bytes. Decimal (SI) units such as kilobyte and gigabyte use powers of 1,000, while binary (IEC) units such as kibibyte and gibibyte use powers of 1,024 β which is why a 1 TB drive shows about 931 GiB.
Data Storage units
- Bit (bit) β The bit (bit) is a unit of digital information. 1 bit equals 0.125 bytes. This value is exact by definition.
- Byte (B) β The byte (B) is a unit of digital information. It is the reference unit for all data storage conversions on this site.
- Kilobyte (kB) β The kilobyte (kB) is a unit of digital information in the International System of Units (SI). 1 kilobyte equals 1,000 bytes. This value is exact by definition.
- Megabyte (MB) β The megabyte (MB) is a unit of digital information in the International System of Units (SI). 1 megabyte equals 1,000,000 bytes. This value is exact by definition.
- Gigabyte (GB) β The gigabyte (GB) is a unit of digital information in the International System of Units (SI). 1 gigabyte equals 1,000,000,000 bytes. This value is exact by definition.
- Terabyte (TB) β The terabyte (TB) is a unit of digital information in the International System of Units (SI). 1 terabyte equals 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. This value is exact by definition.
- Petabyte (PB) β The petabyte (PB) is a unit of digital information in the International System of Units (SI). 1 petabyte equals 1 Γ 10ΒΉβ΅ bytes. This value is exact by definition.
- Kibibyte (KiB) β The kibibyte (KiB) is a binary unit of digital information defined by the IEC, based on powers of 1,024. 1 kibibyte equals 1,024 bytes. This value is exact by definition.
- Mebibyte (MiB) β The mebibyte (MiB) is a binary unit of digital information defined by the IEC, based on powers of 1,024. 1 mebibyte equals 1,048,576 bytes. This value is exact by definition.
- Gibibyte (GiB) β The gibibyte (GiB) is a binary unit of digital information defined by the IEC, based on powers of 1,024. 1 gibibyte equals 1,073,741,824 bytes. This value is exact by definition.
- Tebibyte (TiB) β The tebibyte (TiB) is a binary unit of digital information defined by the IEC, based on powers of 1,024. 1 tebibyte equals 1,099,511,627,780 bytes. This value is exact by definition.
